My name is Hamza Akyurt. I am a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and the founder/head coach of Focus Jiu Jitsu.

When I discovered Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in my late teens, it is safe to say that my life wasn't the same again. Since that day I decided that I would dedicate myself completely to improving my skills as a martial artist, competitor and instructor.

Along the way I have been lucky enough to have competed in over 150 competitive matches, earning over thirty medals at the state, Australian and Pan Pacific championships, among other local and international tournaments.

Though I have been fairly successful as a competitor I knew early on in my journey that my true passion was to teach the art that had benefited my life so greatly, so that others may enjoy the same positive impact in their own lives. It is for this reason that I decided to open an academy that would cater to any and all members of the community. To share the life changing benefits that Martial Arts, especially Jiu Jitsu, can have for all those who dedicate their lives to the pursuit of self improvement.
